Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D’s visuals have gotten a lot of flack ever since Konami shared the first screenshots and footage of the game. Fans criticized its seemingly textures, poor frame rate, and overall disappointing graphics.

In the end, it seems that Kojima Productions was able to pull things together. Details have started to emerge from EDGE’s review of Snake Eater 3D, and the magazine was apparently more than impressed with the studio’s work on the title’s visuals. EDGE went as far as to say that “the HD update doesn’t look as good as this portable treatment.”

EDGE wrote in its review:

“Packed with detail, both in terms of it’s environments and mechanics, this is a game that pays back investment in spades. MGS3 is a moden classic – the tighest, smartest and most emotional journey in the series – and even the HD update doesn’t look as good as this portable treatment.”

EDGE gave Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D an 8/10. You can find more scores from the magazine’s latest issue here.

Thanks to joclo for the tip!

OF course it does its a low res game on a low res screen, the same reason why PS1 games look better on a PSP, whenever you have something old the smaller the screen the better it looks.

Indeed, and if you would have the HD version on the 3DS it would automatically look better, which (obviously) are obvious.

I don’t think you posters read the title or article correctly.
It is the OTHER way round.

EDGE is saying Snake Eater on 3DS looks better than the HD version which is preposterous!

EDGE are now known for their controversial trash game review scores. And since their unfair score doesn’t sooth my taste, I wouldn’t even believe this trash comment made from EDGE!

Yea sure: a game not in HD on a small device, just in 3D looks better than the game made in HD that can be watched from 22-100 inch tv.

    Yea..sure, doc!

Whoever wrote this article isnt telling the whole truth. Edge are not just talking about the graphics. The 3DS got allot of added features such as crouch walking, improved CQC controlls, third person aiming, switching camo etc on the 3DS bottom screen. When they say the HD version does not look as good as the 3DS treatment. there saying that allot more love and attention went into the 3DS version.

And I have to agree. I bought the HD remake and am enjoying playing snake eater again. but after playing the 3ds demo last night I was litteraly blown away by how good it looks and how they have improved it. I wasnt going to get the 3DS version after getting the HD collection but as soon as I finished the demo I pre ordered it.

too bad the frame rate on the 3ds one is appalling especially in cutscenes.

Laughable. 3DS version has awful textures and the 3D switches on and off when it feels like it. At times, the 3D is reference level (Perfection) but other times it makes your eyes trip the hell out. Snake himself looks better but the rest? Nope. It doesn’t help that the 3DS has a dull, low res screen. It’d be really nice to see Snake Eater 3D on PS3 and 360 with higher res assets and better 3D.

Freaking Psycho SOny Onlys…I swear you guys would say the sun is up at midnight if it ment defending your precious GAYstation & it’s THIRD PARTY games.

You guys have the most SCEWED view on games….& you don’t even realise it’s thanks to all the lies SOny has been feeding you since the ps2. I really feel bad for you ignorant Al Qaeda rejects.

Anywho back to topic, I can agree with Edge. I own both & the 3DS iteration does look better despite the drop in frame rate…my only dissapointment is that you don’t get the hillarious bonus videos that Substinanse had…oh well still better on the go, FUCK trophies…
